Directions/Lodging Information

Your workshop will begin on Wednesday at 6:00 pm and end on Sunday at 10:30 am.  Participants are required to attend the entire workshop.  Please make your travel arrangements accordingly.

All costs of lodging and meals are covered in the workshop cost.

Participants will stay at the Thunderbird Lodge, a beautiful rural setting within close proximity to the south rim of the canyon.  Rooms will be shared with one other participant of the same gender in the Healing Veterans workshops.  All rooms have a private bath and two double beds.

All workshops will be conducted primarily in a conference room at the Thunderbird Lodge.  On Saturday, the workshop will be held at the sweat lodge grounds, about 20 miles from the Thunderbird Lodge.  Transportation will be arranged.

Most meals will be served in the Thunderbird Lodge restaurant.  On Saturday, following the sweat lodge ceremony, Alfred will prepare a traditional meal.


All costs associated with travel are not included in the workshop cost.  Participants are responsible to make all travel arrangements. If you need any help with directions, we will provide you with the best possible route. It is advisable to travel on the Diné Nation during day light hours due to open range sheep and cattle grazing.

There is no airport in Chinle, Arizona.  If you are going to travel by airplane, you will need to rent a car at the airport and drive the remainder of the journey.
